DESCRIPTION
CuAl or Aluminum Bronze alloys are highly valued for their strength and corrosion resistance when compared to other bronze alloys. They are alloys with low corrosion rates in atmospheric air and low reactivity to sulfur compounds. They are also resistant to seawater due to the properties of Aluminum, which reacts with oxygen to form a thin layer of Alumina (Aluminum Oxide) that acts as a protective barrier in Copper-rich alloys.
Another notable property of Aluminum Bronze is its biostatic effects. Copper prevents colonization by marine organisms, including algae, and can therefore be preferred over Stainless Steel or other non-cuprous alloys in applications where colonization is not desirable.
The result of Copper, Aluminum and the addition of Iron is SAE 68B Bronze, with high mechanical characteristics and resistance to chemical agents, corrosion, shock and fatigue. High strength combined with a certain ductility, low coefficient of friction compared to steel.
They have excellent mechanical properties, withstand extremely high loads at low speeds and high pressure; highly resistant to vibrations, wear, corrosion and cavitation. Heat treatable.
These are alloys that require good lubrication.
APPLICATION
Bearings, Bushings, Crowns, Gears, Valve Seats and Seats, Guides, Pinions, Shoes, Rings, Parts for Agitators and Anti-sparking Tools.
